We Have a Ghost VFX

This is an emotional movie about a ghost bonding with the family he lives with. We achieved this by photographing David Harbour actually interacting with the family, then removing him from every shot, manipulating his image to make him appear more ghostly, then reinserting him into the scene. Of the over 1300 shots we had in the film, he needed to create the ghostly effects for 850 of them!

Aside from us needing to feel the emotion beween the characters and the ghost, we also worked to create a unique look to him – transparent, yet with energy seeming to move within his body at all times. There was also a little bit of ghostly “smoke” coming off of him as he moved. It was an effective treatment, much more interesting than just a ghost you could see through.
